Shawn and I went away last week on a marriage retreat and it was absolutely pure bliss!
Aside from spending some much needed unplugged time with Shawn, I was also able to spend consecutive days outside of my usual mom uniform of sweats and a t shirt. Before Raelynn all things related to makeup and beauty was my happy place but there’s not exactly much time to primp in the mirror on a daily when you have a very active toddler running around.
Although I was super excited to return to my happy place, I also knew I wanted to keep packing to a minimum. I was looking to achieve the perfect balance of having everything I needed to have that perfect “beat” but without lugging around multiple products. There were a couple new products I snagged for the trip but a lot of it was just my usual tried and true products. Through being extremely intentional about what I packed I was able to create the perfect vacation makeup bag!
Faves
Tarte shape tape concealer— This would fall under one of my tried and true products. Since I tried this concealer out last year, I have yet to pick up or try a different concealer. I love the dewy finish it gives off once it dries and I also love its ability to cover up mama’s dark circles from lack of sleep. I can actually only think of 2 times I used my foundation this trip, I mostly solely used this concealer for a quick simple makeup look.
Fenty hydrating foundation— On the couple times I did reach for my foundation it was always my Fenty hydrating foundation. I talked a little bit about this foundation on my dry skin faves post a couple months ago and even after months of using it my initial review still stands true. It easily gives me a healthy glow with really good coverage. I have learned that this foundation does 10 times better with a wet beauty blender opposed to a brush. The beauty blender just gives it a more natural finish in my opinion.
OleHenriksen Primer— This is actually a new product I snagged a month ago purely because it is in the same line as my current favorite moisturizer and under eye cream. Honestly I have no specific words to describe what this primer does besides make your makeup look aaaamazing! I’ve found that the whole OleHenriksen banana line does a really good job with brightening but I felt like the primer not only brightened but gave my makeup a clean and natural look. My only disclaimer (given to me by the Sephora employee) is to be sure you are using a sun screen under the primer because otherwise the vitamin c in the primer can cause hyperpigmentation.
L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara and L’Oreal Lash Paradise— This is my all time favorite mascara combo. I know it sounds like a lot to double up on mascara but both of these mascaras serve two different (but necessary) purposes and neither leave my eyelashes feeling crusty at the end of the day. The telescopic mascara lengthens my eyelashes and lash paradise adds extra volume. On lighter days I stick to using only the telescopic mascara, which in my opinion works really great alone. If you’re still concerned about clumping or just excessive mascara, L’Oreal also makes a really good eyelash primer I use on occasion.
A couple other essentials I made sure to pack:
Tools ( Elf powder brush, complexion brush, highlighting brush and real techniques sponge)– All of these tools were picked up from target.
Benefit Goof Proof— I used this sparingly throughout the trip because my eyebrows were freshly waxed, but definitely my go to eyebrow pencil.
Milk makeup cream highlighter— Love this stuff! I talked a little bit about this in my dry skin faves post.
Maybelline Fit me loose finishing powder— This is probably my 2nd favorite setting powder, but it got the job done. I really wasn’t too concerned with setting my makeup on this trip because I preferred a more dewy look.
I’m so excited I found a routine and system I love when it came to packing my beauty products. We have a handful of trips on our wish list this year and I’m looking forward to bringing this amazing minimal routine along!
xo.
