As a christian, prayer is essential to our life.
It’s how we build a genuine relationship with God, find rest, pour our hearts out to Him, cast our burdens and (in my opinion) the ultimate way to adore and worship Him.
There are a couple of things I’ve been doing this year to push my prayer life to the next level. These things have really amped things up for me to the point I couldn’t help but share!
Write out names of people to pray for
How many times have you told someone you’re going to pray for them…but don’t? Not because you intentionally didn’t want to pray for them, but because you got so wrapped up in life it slipped your mind. Saying you’ll pray for someone is a natural reaction for so many of us but actually putting in the work, on the other hand, isn’t. So I’ve started keeping a running list of things that come upon my heart throughout the day and people that ask me for prayer.
Listen when you can’t speak
Prayer is simple and ultimately just a conversation between you and God. It never has to be more than you talking to Him in your natural voice. He wants to hear from you, as you are. But, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that there are times my emotions and heart are so heavy that it’s hard to speak. In these moments I cut on prayers on youtube or worship music, sit still, and wait for His presence. I allow the prayer and words of others to build me up in the spirit until I find the words to speak myself (Romans 8:26). Aside from digging deeper into the word, I love listening to prayers especially ones that pray scriptures. My church shares its prayer service every Thursday on their Youtube @GreatFaithChurch, you should check them out! I also linked my favorite worship playlist at the top of this blog.
Pray with others
Lately, I’ve been praying with a couple of girls once a week and it’s been both refreshing and strengthening. Consistently speaking with and fellowshipping with like-minded believers that are close to me is just what I needed this year. If you prefer living in a bubble-like me (LOL), I couldn’t emphasize more for you to find a group of like-minded believers to hold you accountable, fellowship with, AND pray with. Like I mentioned in my boldness post, we’re not meant to do life alone.
I can’t help but end this post asking YOU if there’s anything you need prayer for. If there is, you are more than welcome to email me at contact@michellexoelise.com or simply drop it in the comments below.
