E.L.F. Cosmetics is hands down one of my favorite affordable cosmetic brands. My first ever makeup brush set was from E.L.F. cosmetics, and to this day I prefer their makeup brands over most high-end makeup brushes. So when I found out E.L.F. cosmetics also had a skincare line, I was super excited to try it out.
I feel like there are 2 huge misconceptions when it comes to having a solid skincare regimen. The first one is, you need to have a ton of serums, oils, and masks in order for your regimen to be effective enough to address all your needs. The second misconception is the idea that cost and effectiveness are linear when it comes to having solid skincare products. If you’ve been following along on my skincare basics series, you know I don’t think you really need much besides 1-2 skincare cleansers and a good moisturizer. Sure, everything else is fun to have but are they necessary for your daily routine? Probably not.
Today, and maybe in a couple of future posts, I want to address the second misconception. I can’t even lie to you, I’ve spent a pretty penny on high-end skincare products. Some products I’ve loved and others were quickly returned. But, are they necessary? Could I find an equivalent product in a drugstore?
I was able to easily find all the products I needed from the E.L.F. cosmetics skincare line at my local Target (and some extras ?). Also, it is worth mentioning that I may receive a small commission from any link on this post that you click and purchase.
Bounce Back Jelly Cleanser (3.38 fl oz)
$6
I was initially drawn to this cleanser because of its claims of being gentle and perfect for removing makeup. As you know, my favorite gentle cleanser of all time is the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. So, I was super excited to get my hands on another gentle cleanser.
My first reaction was the strong coconut scent. It smelled really good but I initially checked the ingredients for fragrances and of course, it was there. Personally, I prefer to use fragrance-free cleansers. When it comes to fragrances, my skin can sometimes be sensitive. I will say though, Parfum was the last ingredient meaning that there’s only a small amount. And ultimately, I didn’t have a reaction to it.
All in all, I would say that the Bounce Back Jelly Cleanser is a good gentle cleanser. Especially considering it runs for $6! I’m not necessarily sure I would suggest it over Cerave’s gentle cleanser but nonetheless I would recommend it. If you like double cleansing I would recommend this cleanser as your first cleanser to remove makeup.
E.L.F. Illuminating Eye Cream (0.49 oz)
$10
This eye cream would fall under the category of skincare that’s fun to have but not completely necessary. For $10 though, I felt like I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to give it a try.
Was it the worst product I’ve ever tried? Absolutely not, it was very moisturizing and got the job done as far as an eye cream goes. But, I didn’t see quick brightening effects the way I do with the Ole Henriksen Banana Brightening Eye Cream.
E.L.F. Holy Hydration Face Cream (1.8 oz)
$12
This is the product that inspired this whole post! Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for a good drugstore moisturizer and decided to give this one a try. What sold me on this product was its ingredient list. I was super excited to try a moisturizer with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in it. After trying it, I understood why E.L.F. considers it their “holy grail” product. I found it to be light on the skin but still very hydrating. It left my skin feeling super soft and pretty equivalent to a lot of high-end moisturizers I’ve tried in the past.
If you’re on a budget and in the market for a new moisturizer, I would highly recommend trying this one out!
Overall, I would say that E.L.F. cosmetics did not disappoint on their skincare line. I’d love to hear from YOU. Are there any drugstore skincare products you can not live without? If so what are they? Share them in the comments below!
