If you read my Makeup Basics post, you may remember me mentioning that I’ve been itching to try eyelash extensions. But, after further research, I wasn’t mentally or financially ready to commit to them quite yet. So, I was super excited when I stumbled across FlutterHabit lashes, as they claim to last 3 to 5 days and application can be done in the comfort of your own home.
As someone who has tried (and failed) to apply fake strip lashes a million times in the past couple of years I was reluctant to try these out but nonetheless excited.
Prep/Pre-Application
So, I ordered the lash style “The Wink” and their latex glue. Every style of lashes costs $29.99 and you will receive 2 boxes (about 6 sets) of lashes for that price. If you plan on wearing these lashes constantly, these 2 boxes should last you a full month. They also have a subscription service so if you really love their lashes, you’ll never run out!
Something I really loved about this lash company is its FlutterHabit Family Facebook group. This group is a gold-mine of different tips and tricks. Before I settled on “The Wink” style, I was able to see what each style of lashes looked like on other girls with a similar eye shape. Which, as a girl with small eyes this was super helpful!
Application
What you need/Helpful Tools
- Lashes
- Eyelash glue
- Slanted tweezers
- Eyelash Extension Tweezers
- Eyelash curler (to curl your natural lashes)
- Mirror
Tips
- Make sure you have a lot of time on your hand to apply, especially if it’s one of your first couple of applications. Although I found these easier to use compared to traditional strip lashes, there’s still a learning curve.
- This leads me to my next tip, get comfortable. I sat in front of my wall mirror to put these on.
- Since you want these to last, you want to put a decent amount of glue on each lash. I not only put the glue directly on the strip but slightly into the lashes and on the sides of the strip as well. I attached a picture above for reference.
- Once you have glue on your lashes, allow the glue to get tacky by waiting 50-ish seconds.
- When placing the fake lashes on your lashes, make sure there’s no residue glue on your tweezers. Otherwise, when you try to apply your lashes they’ll just stick to your tweezers. Once again, there’s a picture above so you can see what I’m talking about.
- This next tip is probably the most important tip to remember. Once you place the fake lashes onto your lashes DON’T touch them. Any adjustments that need to be made can still be made once the glue is mostly dried.
- If you want to dry your lashes quicker, you can use a blow dryer on the cool setting. BUT, I wouldn’t even do this until they’re on your lashes for a couple of minutes.
Removal
I prematurely removed my lashes after 3 days. After 3 days, there was absolutely nothing wrong with them in the sense I didn’t feel like they were falling off. But, my face was breaking out like crazy (for unrelated reasons) and I felt like I couldn’t wash and treat my face the way I wanted to AND be gentle with my lashes.
To remove them I splashed water off of my face and rubbed coconut oil on my lashes until the glue broke down and the lashes slid off easily. I would by no means recommend taking the lashes off in any pulling motion. Simply put, you don’t want to lose your natural lashes.
Overall, I think FlutterHabit is a great option if you’re looking to add something different to your daily look. A ton of girls on the FlutterHabit Facebook Group mentioned they wore their lashes for closer to 5 to 7 days. So next time I put them on, I’m going to aim for closer to the 5-day time span.
The next style I plan on trying out is “The Shorties”. They are more full and a little shorter than “The Wink”. So make sure you’re keeping an eye out on Instagram to see how those turn out!
