The past couple of Easters both my mama and I have made Raelynn an Easter basket. We both love keeping this tradition alive and spoiling Raelynn. This year, I swore I wasn’t going to double up on Easter baskets and I left the ball in my mama’s court. As usual though, I couldn’t resist snagging “just a couple more things”.
In our household, Easter has absolutely nothing to do with the Easter bunny. Instead we celebrate Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. We’ve been planting seeds on this concept all of Raelynn’s sweet life but the older she gets the more we’ve been getting into the meat and potatoes. So while, Easter baskets are great because I love giving gifts and Raelynn loves receiving them, I try to use some of her Easter goodies as a teachable moment.
So below I’ll share some “fun” spring/easter goodies as well as some of the goodies we use as a teachable moment.
“Fun” Easter Basket Ideas
Name crayons
Honestly, when I stumbled across these name crayons they were too cute to pass up.
Easter Outfit
This year we’re opting to not dress traditionally so I plan on going with a casual spring outfit over a pretty frilly dress. I’ll link a little of both according to what you’re looking for this year.
Egg Coloring
While we stay away from most Easter traditions just to keep the focus on Jesus, I do love dyeing eggs. To be honest, I just love making things pretty lol!
Garden Kit
This is a fun spring activity I snagged to do with Raelynn. It seems like a fun bonding activity for the two of us to get into.
Outdoor Toys
Spring is in full swing around here and when our allergies aren’t getting in the way we love playing outside. So you can never go wrong with a jump rope, sidewalk chalk, bubble maker or any other outdoor toys you can throw in a basket!
“Teachable” Easter Basket Ideas (& Activities)
Books
In the weeks leading up to Easter, we’ve been incorporating these stories into our bedtime routine. I love each of them for different reasons but I feel like collectively they do a good job on driving different core purposes behind the resurrection of Christ.
ABC Bible Memory Verse Flash Cards
This is actually an activity I grew up doing so it’s actually really exciting to now be doing this with Raelynn! I had cards passed down to me when Raelynn was first born but you can also purchase cards from Kids Read Truth.
Bible Coloring Poster
This Valentine’s Day I purchased a 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 coloring poster and Raelynn loved it. It’s still hanging up on her wall today. So, I’m thinking about doing the same for this Easter holiday.
Resurrection Rolls
This is a tradition I started with Raelynn last year and it’s honestly my favorite. It’s super easy and a great activity for all ages.
He died for…Good Friday Activity
This is such a simple yet tangible activity for littles that we will be doing on Good Friday this year. You simply put a red dot on your hand with your name on it as a reminder that Jesus died for YOU. If you’re not comfortable writing on your hand you could always try face paint or a red sticker! I stumbled across this activity through a blogger on Pinterest.
